Granite: The Everywhere Stone

An excellent choice for kitchen countertops, flooring, and other heavily used surfaces.

Outside

Granite has long enjoyed use as an exterior cladding and pavement material, and its inherent strength, abrasion resistance and superior weathering durability are likely to keep it one of the preeminent material selections available.

In The Kitchen

Granite is typically heat resistant up to temperatures of ±480°F, although direct application of localized heat sources is discouraged, since strong thermal gradients within the stone can initiate cracking. Granite is also one of the most bacteria-resistant kitchen surfaces, and it is not affected by citric acid, coffee, tea, alcohol, or wine. It is also nearly impossible to scratch, and with proper cleaning, will not stain under normal use.

Durability and Beauty

Available in a striking array of colors, granite's durability and longevity make it ideal for kitchen counter tops and other heavily used surfaces, including table tops and floors.  Granites usually have a "spattered" or "swirled" grain and can contain many colors.  The only genuine stones harder than granite are diamonds, rubies, and sapphires. Choose granite when permanence, enduring color and texture, and complete freedom from deterioration and maintenance are prime requirements. Granite is highly heat, scratch and stain resistant, and is commonly used to face commercial and institutional buildings and monuments. It is unequaled as a material for fireplaces, steps, road and driveway curbing, terraces, and to pave plazas and public spaces. Granite is the traditional favorite of countertop materials for its unique colors and patterns, proven durability and lasting value.
